Bloomberg is an idiot, just not a total idiot: Michael Bloomberg announced this week his plans to put wind turbines on bridges and roof tops all over New York City in an effort to capture some of the wind and convert it to electricity. His heart is in the right place. We need to look at ways to get off the grid, and especially get off of our dependence on foreign oil (not to mention domestic oil). But Bloomberg fell short of short in telling the people what these things would look like, how they would work, or even having a demonstration model working. So the naysayers immediately photoshopped some huge turbines on bridge tops and buildings making this look like a ridiculous proposal.
We need to look at every technology possible, and possibly combine several, to get away from the way that we are doing things now. But we also need politicians who can think through a plan and possibly even run small tests before they jump on the bandwagon with every fade that comes along. Bloomberg had a good idea, just poor execution in communicating that plan.
